Welcome

Marea is the word for “tide” in Italian. It also happens to be the name of one of my favorite restaurants in my favorite city in the world, New York City.

I like to think that the financial markets move in a way similar to the tides. There is an underlying ebb and flow. As any swimmer or sailor knows, it is much easier to make progress if you are moving in the same direction as the underlying tide. The same goes for investing, It is easier to make money if you invest in the direction of the underlying trend.

This note will serve as my diary, a running account of my attempt to be on the right side of the markets’ tides across asset classes and geographies. I will also look at and think about the smaller movements (the wind and waves) that could, but don’t always, impact the prevailing trend. I will look at the technical and fundamental dynamics at play in the global asset markets at any given time in an attempt to find the instances where the tide, the wind and the waves are all pointing in the same direction.

My goal is to share my thoughts. I welcome any and all feedback and encourage an open dialogue in the hopes that we can learn from each other.

Thank you for reading Marea Market Musings!
